A Time to be born
On Wednesday, June 21, 1939, in Swainsboro, Georgia, Sidney Luke Smith, Jr. was born to Mr. Sidney Luke Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Bell Fye Smith.
A Time for Church
Sidney began his Christian journey at an early age. He was baptized at Coleman AME Church and enjoyed working with the youth department. He remained a faithful member until he relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1977. There he attended various churches and decided to join a Baptist church in Mt. Rainier, Maryland. In 1995 he moved to North Carolina and joined the Gaston Baptist Church. He supported his church faithfully.
A Time to Work
At the age of 18 he was employed by Carl Lawson Pulpwood Company where he loaded and drove trucks. He later went to Elroy Turpentine Company in Swainsboro, Georgia. He was employed with Dart Drug loading trucks and operating a forklift. He worked with Roses in maintenance and retired in 2001.
A Time for Love & Family
He met and fell in love with Annie Lee Dollar. They were united in holy matrimony in Swainsboro, Georgia. To this union, four daughters were born, Jacqueline Devon, Annie Bell, Cynthia, and Pamela. He was a loving husband and father to his family. In 1986 he met Patty Mae Webb and after a decade courtship, they were united in marriage and he was happy to welcome three more daughters to the family. He was a loving husband until God called her home in October 2003.
His Life
Sidney never met a stranger. He was the life of the party. He would always tell jokes, had a smile on his face, and enjoyed dancing. Since he was 18 years old, he had a love for cars. He was always working on one for himself or was happy to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He remained in good health until about the age of 80. He was a good neighbor and many counted him as a good friend.
A Time to Rest
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Sidney L. Smith, Sr., mother, Mrs. Mattie Bell Fye Smith, David L. Smith, Sr., Patty M. Smith, and daughter, Jacqueline Smith Johnson.
He leaves lasting and loving memories to: his three daughters, Annie Bell Heard, Cynthia Shedrick, and Pamela Everidge; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
