Romanis Norwood Obituary

On February 5, 2026, God called Mr. Romanis Norwood from his earthly labors to his eternal rest, to a land free from sickness, pain, and sorrow.

Romanis was born on August 25, 1929, in Soperton, Georgia, to the late Annie B. Williams. He later moved to Swainsboro, Georgia, where he received his formal education in the Emanuel County School System and was known for his strong aptitude in mathematics.

At an early age, Romanis accepted Christ and became a faithful and devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he served honorably as a Deacon. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a good friend.

Romanis retired from Roper/AYP, where he worked as a Shift Supervisor. He later continued his strong work ethic at Merrion’s Dry Cleaners, where he was employed for several years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie B. Williams; his beloved wife, Bernie “Lady” Norwood; his son, Joe Willie Norwood; and his daughter, Gloria Jean Norwood.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings: four brothers, Dawson Norwood, William Frazier, Theodis Williams, and Charles Williams; and three sisters, Flora Mae Hicks Gilbert, Mae Lois Little, and Annie Mae Lincoln.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one daughter, Dorothy McKelvin; four sons, Tommy (Doris) Norwood, Charles Norwood, Eddie (Jacquelyn) Sampson, Jimmy (Vivian) Sampson, and Gerry Newsome; one son-in-law, James Dawson; his loving siblings, L.C. (Sylvia) Edwards, Rudolph Edwards, Johnny Dukes, Melvin Dukes, and Ethel Pearl Williams, along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
