Mary S. Lawrence Bines was born August 4, 1940 to the late Richard Arthur and Leola Palmer Lawrence, in Emanuel County. She was a 1959 graduate of Emanuel County High school in Swainsboro, GA, where she was also a member of Swainsboro’s first women’s state championship basketball team. At an early age, she joined the Rountree Island Baptist Church and served faithfully as a member and president of the Usher Board and as Bookkeeper of the Independent Benevolent Society.
After graduating from high school, Mary worked in various locations, which included Fort Lauderdale, Florida and New York City. She then moved to Atlanta, GA and continued to work in the banking industry for several years. After which she became a property manager for the HJ Russell Company, retiring after 16 years of service. In 1997 Mary married Rutherford Rudolph Bines, who preceded her in death.
Her passions including playing card games, and Bingo. Also, Mary was an avid fan of baseball with an affinity for the Atlanta Braves. She had a flare for TV and could be found watching Family Feud and/or Perry Mason on a daily basis.
Mary leaves her precious memories to be cherished by many including three sisters: Robbie, Callie (Henry Wiggs) and her twin sister Martha; five brothers: Eddie, Richard (Edna), John, Rosie (Princess), Bob (Tyice) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Grace and Pearl.
