On the morning of August 22, 2025, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ summoned his death angel too bring back the soul of his faithful servant Sister Lessie Bell Marion. Sister Lessie Bell Marion was born on October 16, 1936 in Emanuel County. She was the fifth child to the late Mr. & Mrs. Sylvia Cody Marion and Robert Marion ,Sr.
Sister Lessie Bell Marion started her education with her attending the one room school named Gary Elementary School, located off Hwy #1, near Smith Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Swainsboro, Ga. Betty as she was affectionately called, loved reading, reciting poems, novel books, the Holy Bible, and caring for her younger siblings. When Field days (where all the schools would meet together to compete), she would participate in the Oratory competition. She would usually place second or third and sometimes first. She was an advocate for Bible Study, whereas the Book of Psalms was amongst her favorite. She graduated in 1955 from Swainsboro Elementary and High School. Betty’s favorite authors were Henry Wadswoth Longfellow, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Elizabeth Browning, Shakespeare, and Edgar Allan Poe.
Betty as she was called, was united in Holy Matrimony in Jersey City, NJ to the late Johnny Young. She resided and worked for a few years in Jersey City, NJ in the 60’s. She returned to Swainsboro, Ga in the 70’s and worked for Argo Mills where she retired in the 90’s.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Young; five Sisters Melvina Mosley, Arlina Marion, Mary Rose Blake, Lucille Marion Hudson, and Catherine Doyle; Niece Annie Joyce; three Brothers Robert Lee Marion, Jr, Willie Joesph Marion, and John Ellis Marion.
Betty will surely be missed, and her family will be left with a life time of precious memories.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, one sister; JoAnn Foots of Swainsboro, Ga, two brothers; Aldrich (Roma) Marion ,and James E. (Ruby) Marion all of Swainsboro, Ga. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces,
