Jewel Miller Hudson was born on May 14, 1932, in Brooks County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Charlie B. Miller, Jr. and Mrs. Hattie Brice Miller.
She received her elementary and high school training in the Brooks County School System, graduating high school from Morven Rosenwald in Morven, Georgia. She continued her education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Savannah State College in Savannah, Georgia. Jewel’s teaching career consisted of teaching at Lexsy Elementary School, Emanuel County, Georgia; Tenders Grove Elementary School, Avera, Georgia; and Carver Elementary School, Wadley, Georgia. She retired from the Jefferson County School System, after completing thirty years of service in education.
Jewel accepted Christ at an early age and her faith remained the anchor of her life’s work. She was a deaconess and founding member of the senior choir at Pineola Church of God, Wadley, Georgia. While at Pineola, she served as a missionary and actively worked as a committee member in various departments of the Georgia Fellowship of the Church of God (formerly Georgia General Assembly of the Church of God). Jewel also served as a former chairperson of the Board of Christian Education.
Later, Jewel joined the House of Prayer Worship Ministries, Inc. where she served as church secretary, choir member and Mother of the Church.
While working in the family business, Jewel served as the cosmetologist and floral designer for Hudson Mortuary, Wadley, Georgia.
Jewel joined Farris Madison Hudson in holy matrimony on July 22, 1956. To this union five children were born. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, godmother, aunt and friend. It truly can be said that she believed in being of service to her fellowman.
On Monday, July 15, 2024, the final dismissal bell rang, and class ended as Jewel peacefully transitioned from labor to reward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie B.
