Jeremiah Foots (Charlie) Obituary

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2:30 pm Deacon Jeremiah Foots departed this life at Emanuel Medical Hospital from COVID complications and his medical condition. The Lord called him home. He was the fifth child to Mr. Grady and Mrs. Idella Foots. He was born June 1, 1941 in Candler County the city of Metter, Georgia. At an early age he united with Treemount Temple Baptist Church. He was a very active member at Treemount Temple, he served on the Usher Board and a faithful Sunday School member. He attended school in Metter, Georgia. During his high school years he was on the football team and very athletic.

He later moved to Swainsboro, Ga with his family. He operated the tractor on his father’s farm. There he met his wife JoAnn Marion. They were married in holy matrimony and to this union they had six beautiful children. He worked in various occupations, then he became a masonry by trade and later started his own business, Foots Construction. He was self-employed for 35 years until his illness. He became a faithful member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in which he became an ordained Deacon and held many positions of office. He sang in the choir, a faithful Sunday school attendant and became the Sunday School Superintendent. He also became the chairman of the Deacon Board. His passion was working with the youths. In addition to his dedicated service to Smith Grove Baptist Church, he served in the New Improved Sunday School Convention as Super-intendant, then moved to Vice-president and later President.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Thomas Gerald Foots; his mother and father Idella and Grady Foots; his three sisters Yvonne Jackson, Eulla Mae Bullard and Lena Crocket; brothers, J.W. and Bretha Foots, and Joe Louis Foots; and two granddaughters Shanise Nicole Jackson and Reonia Sylvia Foots.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife JoAnn Foots; two daughters, Vivian Jackson of Aberdeen, MD and Jennifer (Darrin) Berkley of Abingdon, MD; three sons, Henry (Angela) Foots, Ronald (Sheila) Foots, and Jonathan Foots of Swainsboro, GA; one sister Mrs. Catherine Edwards of Swainsboro, GA and three brothers Mr. Edward Foots of Miami FL, Mr. Earl Foots of Swainsboro, GA and Mr. Grady Foots of Atlanta, GA. He leaves two brothers-in-law Ardrich (Roma) Marion and James (Ruby) Marion; and two sisters-in-law, Lessie Bell Marion and Nancy Way Marion. He also leaves 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
