Farris Hudson, Sr. Obituary

Farris Madison Hudson, Sr., was born December 4, 1932, in Wadley, Jefferson County, Georgia to the late James Madison Hudson and Eliza Murphy.  He received his elementary and high school training in the Jefferson County schools -- graduating high school from Carver High School, Wadley, Georgia. He continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Savannah State College, Savannah, Georgia and a Master’s degree from Atlanta University, Atlanta Georgia.

Farris served as a teacher in the math and science departments at Jefferson County Training School, Louisville, Georgia. He later served as principal of several schools, including Lexsy Elementary School, Lexsy Georgia; Tenders Grove Elementary School, Avera, Georgia; Jefferson County High School, Louisville, Georgia; and Wadley High School, Wadley, Georgia. He was former chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Education and a member of the Georgia School Board Association. He also served on several committees for the community of Wadley, including the Planning and Zoning Committee.

Farris accepted Christ at an early age, and his faith remained the cornerstone of his existence throughout all his days. He was a deacon and senior choir member of Pineola Church of God in Wadley, Georgia and later a deacon of House of Prayer Worship Ministries, Inc. He served as Treasurer of the Georgia General Assembly of the Church of God for eight years and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgia General Assembly.

A Certified Mortician, Farris was self-employed at Hudson’s Mortuary of Wadley, Georgia. He joined Jewel Miller in holy matrimony on July 22, 1956. To this union five children were born. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, godfather, brother, and friend. He believed in a life of service and giving back whenever possible.

On Sunday, May 26, 2024, Farris Madison Hudson, Sr., transitioned to his eternal home. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. (Mattie) Hudson and Eliza Murphy (Rev. Willie) Hooper; three brothers, Ronnie Eugene (Kathy) Hudson, Roosevelt “Ricky” (Julia) Hooper, and James Hudson, Jr.; one sister Maxine Grimes; and one son-in-law, Earl B. Williams, Sr.; his mother and father-in-law Charlie B. (Hattie) Miller, Jr., two brothers-in-law Charlie J. Miller and Henry B. Miller; and three sisters-in-law Mary L. (Larry) Holland, Doris (Benny) Lacue, and Annette Miller.

Cherishing his memory is his loving wife, Jewel Miller Hudson; one son, Farris Madison (Verna) Hudson, Jr.; four daughters, LaZelda H. Williams, Farlyn Z. Hudson. Shawana Lynn (Donovan) Lewis, and Phrashunda J. Hudson; five grandsons, Faraji T. H. (Jessica) Prator, Earl B. (Karla) Williams, Jr., Farath J. H. Prator, Farris M. Hudson, III, Donovan T. Lewis, Jr.; seven great grandchildren Mehira, Nevaeh, Karson, Semaj, Karter Grace, Brayden, and Blake; two brothers, Larry N. (Elizabeth) Hudson and Marion Hudson; and one sister Alma (Ronnie) McCladdie; three brothers-in-law Louis B. Miller, Willie J. (Rusha) Miller, and David L. (Doris) Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and friends.
