Evelyn Tims Obituary

Evelyn “Lois Reed” Tims was born on September 24, 1942 in Columbia, LA, to Etta C. Martin of Columbia, LA and Monard Reed of Clarks, LA.

She graduated from Union Central High School in 1960. She attended Grambling College in Grambling, LA.

Evelyn met her husband, Elson Tims, Jr. while attending Grambling. They created a life together in Swainsboro, GA in 1967. From this union, a son and daughter were born, Elson Tims, III and Zandraetta Tims Cook (nee Tims). Evelyn was employed as secretary in the A building at Swainsboro High School from 1967 to 1994. She opened EZT Fashions in the mid 1990s until she relocated to New York and then Atlanta, GA to care for her grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Philip Baptist Church throughout her residence in Swainsboro. She was active at Victory For The World Church, in Stone Mountain, GA on the Mothers’ Board after relocating to Atlanta.

Evelyn loved fashion and held an affinity for “expensive” things. She loved perfume, shoes, hats, and caftans. She had a knack for remembering dates and could recall the birthdays of everyone she knew. She loved being the first to call you to wish you a happy birthday. She kept sentimental cards on hand to have one ready to give you for any occasion.

Evelyn is survived by her son and daughter; her son-in-law Marshall Cook; her grandchildren Tyshanana Brown, Elson Malik Wilson, Raven Cook, and Riha Cook; her great-grandchildren, Ja’Kailey and Yuri and a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors in Louisiana, Texas, and Hearthside Club in Tucker, GA.

Evelyn passed away peacefully and surrounded by her close family in the early morning of August 12, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father (June 1990) and mother (January 1991), and by her former husband in September 1996.
