Chief Apostle Clyde Fowler, Sr. was born on March 21, 1936, to the late Nathaniel and Minnie C. Fowler. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ella Bell, Bertha, John, Novella, Bonnie, and Bobby.
He spent his early childhood in Burke and Emanuel Counties…where he attended the public school system. In 1972, he attended Southeastern Technical College (formerly Swainsboro Institute) where he enrolled in the Automotive Program. He also attended Theologian School under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. A.W. Russell and the late Rev. Dr. Benefield.
He also found gainful employment at an incredibly early age. He was an employee at NAPA (formerly Auto Parts and Supply Company) for 62 years, where he was respected and loved by everyone he met, employees and customers alike.
Clyde started his Christian journey at Roberson Grove Baptist Church in Midville, Georgia, of which he served on the deacon and usher boards. Later, he joined Williams Chapel Holiness Church where he met his soulmate Mary Ellen Hampton. Later they married on December 22, 1956 and raised a loving family in Summertown, Georgia.
Clyde was called to preach the gospel at an early age. Early on, he was an Evangelist; later, he served as Assistant Pastor for several years until he was appointed Pastor in 1969. He served as pastor at Williams Chapel Holiness Church for 53 years. He served as Elder, District Elder, Assistant Bishop, Assistant General Bishop, and he presided as the General Bishop and Overseer of the Southern and Northern Dioceses--of the Church of the Living God United. In September 2015, he was affirmed as Chief Apostle.
Chief Apostle devoted his life to teaching and practicing God's Word accurately. He took pride in being an exemplary spiritual leader and positive role model. His leadership as pastor, properly helped to prepare and equip a new generation for the ministry and strengthens the local church.
Chief Apostle continued to be humble, loving, compassionate, hardworking man of God in whom the members, other Pastors, constituents, family, friends, neighbors, loved ones, people of the local community and beyond, continues to love, honor, admire and respect until his passing.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife Mary Ellen Fowler and his children: Rosemerry (Clay) of Summertown, Georgia; Ellen, Dolores (John) of Augusta, Georgia; Clyde Jr., (Tammy), and Gail (Anthony) of Swainsboro, Georgia; Charles (Panthna) of Columbia, South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
